Chinese New Year

Happy New Year, Auckland!

On Saturday, 23rd of January, the Chinese year of the monkey started with a big performance at ASB Showgrounds.

Surrounded by a lot of shops of different types, the event took place in front of the building, in hall 3 and 4.
Dance groups, magic show, diabolo group, martial arts and more gave an impression of Chinese culture.

The speakers informed about more Chinese Investments, to bring more Chinese tourist and students to Auckland...

Well, for me Auckland is already full of Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese and other Asians I cannot assign. There are streets full of Chinese shops, in the center of Auckland every second shop seems to be run by Chinese or Asian, Many shops and restaurants do not even offer their products in English, so you have to ask what you will order and luckily someone of the staff can translate.

Also the prices of food in restaurants and shops are written only in chinese. No need to sell to somebody else?
The most popular food in Auckland seems to be sushi, you can buy it everywhere.
The English language schools are crowded with asians.
You find asian tourists in all parts of Auckland.
The busses during the day are mainly used by retired asians/chinese.
I sometimes ask myself, if Auckland is already a province of china.
